We're in a road movie to Berlin

Sun Sep 11, 2005, 3:59 PM
Where's the exhausted emoticon? Bah.

Quite possibly the most exhausting month I've had. A major system upgrade at work has consumed my time for the past 3 months or so, it's been constantly rescheduled, until this weekend, when it finally occurrred.

It was the blind leading the blind. My first solo upgrade, full backend, on 7 boxes, i've lost count of the number of databases involved; 2 went smoothly, the rest were molten hell. The project manager had only the dimmest concept of what was going on, was zero help, and left a few hours ago to catch a Sigur Ros show (which I envy).

Last night, I slept for 4 hours; I dreamt that I was having a good night's sleep. Sadly, only a dream.

On the plus side - the only bright point in an otherwise hellish weekend - was skating for a few hours; I learned (I use that term oh-so-loosely) how to crossover - and when I'm doing it right (I'll be generous & say 5% of the time), it's a delight, with control over the radius and speed of the turns, stability, the works. Still not as easy, nor second nature, as the leaning curve, which has the sad side effect of slowing me down...

I did spill far more often, but pretty much only when attempting crossovers. I can live with that. Also, the rink was swarmed by small bumps and obstacles, aka children, one of whome I put the fear of large men into - apparently, the expression of "oh-god-about-to-die" on a little kid's face was priceless, but I was far more concerned with -not- killing him to notice...

Also took tons of shots at work - primarily long sets for use in panormamas. A friend believes that you can't do one properly without some rotation int he images; feh, I say. Although, 2 sets were taken with that in mind, and I disregarded camera angle for those.

The battery on the D70 amazes me; I got 4,050 shots on a single charge. I don't use the preview pretty much ever, though...

I figure I should be able to leave in ~ 2 hours or so... then I'll sleep for 20.

There's more I'd like to write... but feh, far too tired.

I ran across your "Signature" and I totally agree with you. Deviant needs more people who can give good critiques.
